Holga 400
A new chapter in film comparisons, I look at the differences between Kodak Tri-X as our standard and Holga 400. All films in these comparisons were shot using the same lighting and position, developed in Kodak D-76 using the manufacturer’s recommended time, and printed on Ilford Classic FB at 11x14 size using the same contrast settings. The printing time varied to cancel any changes in film base fog from film to film. I included the H&D curves for each film to see the individual differences and we look at the overall print, the spectral response of each film, and the grain characteristics.

    I just watched your comparison video again and am going to dig out my 2 enlarging lenses and will buy the Helicoid Lens Mount. I just recently purchased a used Sigma 105mm f2.8 D EX macro lens along with the 35mm and 120 VLADS Test Targets so I should be all set. I plan to test both setups at f8 & f11 to see which is the sharpest. I figure since I'm spending a lot of time scanning, I will use the sharpest setup on all my negatives. Thanks for the comparison.

    great, glad you are making the situation work for yourself! i've never seen a cup lid on a 1500 series tank, do you have any information about it? it would be great to have it, since i do large RC prints in a 2800 series drum which would be a waste for test strips. unfortunately when developing the strips in a tray and the final print in the drum i don't always get the same result despite trying to keep my developer equal.

    recently picked up one of these beauties off the flea market for $20 and I was having a blast taking photos all around the place. It was my first time using one of these cameras so I had no idea what I was doing until the end of the day when I was looking and pressing around the camera to see the film and sadly when I managed to open it up the camera had no film inside. I was so devastated because I taken some nice photos that day but at least I learned something that day, I love this camera more than my canon r10 💀

    I just bought a Flic Film 8 roll ECN-2 kit 3 weeks ago and it already appears to be exhausted after 5 rolls because my last cartridge of Vision3 came out so faint it was unusable. All I know is I developed a roll of Gold 200 before that and the frames came out very colour cast.

      I’m a fan of official C-41 from Kodak or Fuji. There is no such kit for ECN-2, just published recipes by Kodak. I’m pretty sure Kodak gives it a two week shelf life once mixed though. I doubt Flic Film tells people that part

    • @RedStarRogue
      @RedStarRogue 23 дня назад

      @@TheNakedPhotographer*Sigh* that's such a short shelf life compared to C-41 and E-6. Wish Flic Film posted that on their kit or website.

    Great info. I have a bit and piece collection, too. I did not know about the cup/funnel swap out. I have not used it for paper. Because I never knew about the clips... BTW if you have one of the Jobo water bath processors with a cracked or leaking base. I found a fix for it. Position the area to be repaired in as much of a level way as possible. Mask off the area with painters tape with a small tape edge turned up. To dam the area, to keep the patch from running off. The patch is ABS plumbing cement. ABS cement can be found at big box stores for gluing black sewer pipe together. This is as I understand it, ground ABS dissolved in a solvent. It is VERY runny. Brush it on and let it dry you may need a backing piece of tape if the crack is large. Let it dry and repeat to build it up.

    These are so invaluable to me to see the thought process and trouble shooting involved when getting started in a basic dark room in limited space. My bathroom is about half the size of yours. I'm surprised that your little ikea wheely tray is stable enough to hold the easel. I had thought that it would rock back and forth too much. The big problem I'm currently working through is the limited counter space. So far I end up putting trays on the bottom of my shower. However, my back finds that extremely disagreeable.

    Once upon a time I had very limited space for my darkroom and wanted to do print processing. I started looking into this company, Optima, as they make a system that enables vertical processing of prints. They make a “base unit,” and “chemical pods” (essentially vertical trays). Maybe it could work for you in your current space.
